Orla O'Donovan

Orla O’Donovan works in the School of Applied Social Studies at the University College Cork, Ireland. Much of her recent research has focused on the contributions of patients’ organisations and health activists to the production of knowledge, norms and expectations about health and healthcare. She has been actively involved in a number of campaigns and initiatives aimed at exposing and opposing unhealthy pharmaceutical practices in Ireland. In 2010 she was appointed to an Irish Medical Council Ethics Working Group established to review the ways in which doctors in Ireland receive financial and other benefits from pharmaceutical companies.
